4/11/2021 Weekly Update
Happy Sunday,
I hope all of you are doing well! It feels good to be fully vaccinated (much better than Friday, but the fever, aches, chills for one day surely beats coronavirus).
I apologize for the length of this email message but there's a lot happening at the end of the semester.
This week we will finish the unit on gaseous pollutant removal with discussions of absorption, incineration, and NOx control. I'd also like to take some time to talk about Project 3.
This week, the homework on filtration and adsorption is due, along with participation question 12. If you need the 48-h grace period, just let me know. The last homework assignment will be due on April 19 and will include material on absorption, incineration, and NOx control.
I've posted additional jobs and scholarships on those blog posts. Be sure to check those out.
This week you will receive email messages about the Withrow nomination form and the Course Learning Objective Student Evaluation (CLOSE) form. Please complete those.
The Environmental Engineering Society (EES) has its last meeting of the semester on Monday. They will host a panel of speakers from Consumers Energy, EGLE, and NTH Consultants for a Q+A session. Details below.
EES is participating in an invasive species removal project at a local park on Saturday, April 17th. Details below.
The SIRs forms are open. You should have received an email from the Registrar. Details below.
And MSU is providing the Johnson and Johnson vaccine free. Again, details below.
I apologize for the length of this email, but I wanted to get you all of this information.
All the best,
Dr. Masten
From the Registrar: Student Instruction Rating System (SIRS Online) collects student feedback on courses and instruction at MSU. Student Instructional Rating System (SIRS Online) forms will be available for ENE 489 students to submit feedback from 2021-04-12 through 2021-05-12 at https://sirsonline.msu.edu. Note: Students are required to complete the SIRS Online form OR indicate within that form that they decline to participate. Otherwise, final grades (for courses using SIRS Online) will be sequestered for seven days following the course grade submission deadline for this semester.
EES General Meeting
Monday, April 12, 2021 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Description: Our next and FINAL meeting will take place on Monday April 12, 7-8 pm. Bring your questions! There will be a panel of speakers from Consumers Energy, EGLE, and NTH Consultants for a Q+A session.
Hope to see you there!
EES E-Board
Earth Day is right around the corner, and we (EES) certainly won't be missing it!
Meridian Township has invited us to their Stewardship Saturday on Saturday April 17, 9:30am-12pm. We will be doing habitat restoration at Ted Black Woods (540 Grand River Rd, Okemos MI), which could include invasive species removal and sowing native seeds. It will be a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the outdoors while getting to know other members of the community and EES! It would be great to meet you all in person since we have not had the chance to do so this year.
Please register for the event by contacting Emma Campbell at ecampbell@meridian.mi.us.
COVID19 Vaccine
Starting Friday (4/10), MSU will begin administering the Johnson & Johnson vaccine to MSU students 18 and older, regardless of immigration status or primary residence, at the MSU Pavilion for Agriculture and Livestock Education. Students must select an appointment to receive a vaccine using this link: http://hd.ingham.org/coronavirus/r_1010.aspx.
The Johnson & Johnson vaccine is a single-dose vaccine available to adults at least 18 years of age. Individuals are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after receiving the vaccine.
Appointments are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please check the appointment link often; new appointments are added regularly.
What you need to know as you plan to receive a vaccine through MSU:
On the day of your vaccination, you will need to bring with you a valid MSU student ID. If you don’t have a physical ID, a virtual ID is available using the MSU app. Your status as a student will be verified upon arrival. A valid state ID, passport or driver’s license also is acceptable.
Plan to arrive 10-15 minutes prior to your appointment.
If you need transportation to your appointment, Capital Area Transportation Authority (CATA) is providing free transportation to and from appointments seven days a week to this location and other vaccine locations throughout Ingham County. Call 517-394-2282 to schedule your trip, which must be scheduled at least 24 hours before your appointment. CATA is also running a regular route to Lot 89, directly across from the MSU Pavilion.
If driving yourself to the appointment, follow signage directing you to MSU’s student vaccination site. A map is also available here.
Review our frequently asked questions about COVID-19 vaccines.
While MSU is one source of distribution, we encourage you to register with as many vaccine providers as you can and take the first appointment made available to you. To that end, we have information on the Together We Will website where you can register for an appointment with other area providers.
