Welcome to ENE 489

Greetings and welcome to ENE 489,

I hope all of you are well and have enjoyed the break between semesters. It is now clear that the semester will begin on January 19th, with the previous week being a week for "reading, reviewing, and reflecting" (or perhaps resting, relaxing, and rejuvenating).  Either way, this semester will happen. I've set up the course website (LON-CAPA), which you will be able to access as of 1/4/2021. You will sign in as you would normally on D2L. There is a folder on the site with review material for you so that, if you desire, you can look over material from ENE 280 and past chemistry courses. I'll post additional material as it becomes available. The syllabus is also posted.

I will run the course synchronously with recorded lectures that I will post on my YouTube channel. I encourage you to attend class so that you have the opportunity to ask questions and interact with your classmates.

There will be homework (yes, for those of you that have had me as an instructor - it will be in LON-CAPA) assignments, where you will be able to master the course material.  And there will be no exams! It worked fine in ENE 489 after we went to remote learning in the Spring and in ENE 483 in the Fall, so I believe it will work in ENE 489. To replace the exams, there will be three projects.

There is no textbook for this course.  The reading material is available electronically on LON-CAPA.

There is a Google form/survey that I have created, which will assist me in preparing the course and assigning students to teams.  Please complete that as soon as possible.

If you have any questions, feel free to email me.

Enjoy the rest of the break and stay well, and see you in class on the 19th!

Dr. Masten
